Klaxons - 'Echoes'

Klaxons are a psychedelic pop band based in London. The band consists of Jamie Reynolds (bass, vocals), James Righton (keyboards, vocals) and Simon Taylor-Davies (guitar) with drummer Steffan Halperin being officially added in 2007.

Reynolds, Righton and Taylor-Davies formed the band in New Cross, London, United Kingdom, in 2005 Their debut single, “Gravity’s Rainbow” was released on 29 March 2006 as a 500 copies limited 7-inch vinyl, decorated by the band themselves. Their first first EP, Xan Valleys, was released on 16 October 2006, and contained their first two singles alongside some remixes.

Following the release of numerous 7-inch singles on different independent record labels, as well as the success of previous singles “Magick” and “Golden Skans”, the band released their debut album, Myths of the Near Future on 29 January 2007. The album won the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Prize.

After headlining their first tour (the 2007 NME Indie Rave Tour), as well as playing numerous festivals and headlining tours worldwide, the band started working on their follow-up album in October 2007.

HMV describes Klaxons as “acid-rave sci-fi punk-funk”, a phrase lifted directly from Tim Chester’s Radar feature in NME, while their MySpace page touts ‘Psychedelic / Progressive / Pop’. However, they are one of the isolated acts being referred to as ‘Nu Rave’, a genre term coined by Angular Records founder Joe Daniel, who released the trio’s first single.

Destroyer – Kaputt

Dan Bejar started Destroyer as a solo home-recording experiment in the early to mid . Working alone, and at his own pace, Bejar dabbled in four tracking and worked to develop his style and vision.

He was meticulous in reworking songs again and again until he found confidence in his music and his voice. By 1996 he had culled enough material to release his debut full length, We’ll Build Them A Golden Bridge. Stripped down lo-fielectric folk, Golden Bridge introduced Dan as a major new talent in Vancouver.

In 1998 Bejar added a rhythm section to Destroyer and headed into a real studio for the first time to record City Of Daughters, a sparsely produced but engagingly vibrant batch of songs in which Bejar’s unique and inventive lyrics began to evolve into an obtuse and poetically original voice.

Destroyer expanded once again in early 2000, this time rounding out into a quintet for Thief, the third album, which provided an expanded canvas for Bejar’s cryptic and scathing indictments that warned of the pitfalls and pratfalls of the modern music industry (or at least that’s what everyone claimed he was singing about; Dan offered no explanations).

By the time Streethawk: A Seduction hit the streets in 2001, the groundwork had been laid and a maelstrom of critical acclaim flowed all around. Streethawk was a highly refined and biting condemnation, a harsh satire of popular culture, an idea and conception honed to razor sharp perfection.

The Aston Shuffle - 'YOUR LOVE'

The Aston Shuffle are a house music duo from Canberra, Australia. They are made up of Disc jockey and electronic music producers Mikah Freeman and Vance Musgrove.

In 2005 after being friends and associated production whores with Mikah Freeman, Vance Musgrove & Ross McGrath started their digital label project, dubbed The Aston Shuffle. What started off as a group effort to get their previously unreleased tunes to the masses has skyrocketed into 2007 with the group heavily in demand for their white hot remixes – a little electro, a little techno, but all house. When the swing on their tunes hits the dance floor you’ll be more than pleasantly surprised how hard it is keep your body from going retarded.

In 2008, Ross McGrath left the group to focus on other projects. Vance and Mikah have continued the group and since released a new single, "Stomp Yo Shoes".

Daily Bread - 'Shot The Picture'

They play “SEXY GARAGE DANCE”, according to their own description. Freesonica put it this way: “See it as an exhilarating combination of the raw energy of 60s Garage Rock, the recalcitrant attitude of the Dutch Indie scene and Electro dance grooves”. So why is it Sexy? “…well we are sexy, aren’t we??”

Barely a year ago, Stefan Stoer (drums) and Chris Mulder (bass) decided to pursue a radically new course after the demise of the Britpop band they had been playing in. They were aware that Kimberly (who is from the same village and frequents the same watering-hole) wrote a lot of poetry, and they concluded that it would be interesting to make music together. Once they started writing it became clear that the combination of bass and drums was too minimal, and the sound of the Philicorda turned out to be the perfect solution. Daily Bread was born!
