Monokino - New Kid (Official Video)

Das Publikum proudly presents the music video of Monokino's 'New Kid', and welcomes you to the unique and wayward universe of director and scriptwriter Erik Alkema.

'New Kid', from the critically acclaimed album 'Human Error', is released by Konkurrent/My First Sonny Weissmuller in Benelux countries and by China's largest independent record label Modern Sky in China.

The track is now visualized by Amsterdam based artist Erik Alkema who designed all featured puppet characters. Beautifully shot by camerawoman Lonneke Worm, the puppets take the stage in the form of a procession for an adolescent in his big bubble of unlimited possibilities. We follow a parade traveling through the Dutch polder-land where they meet, and are obstructed by the world.

Erik Alkema is a multi-media artist who showed his autonomous works in different exhibitions. He used to be one of the organizers of the successful hipster-party Multisexi in Studio 80 in Amsterdam, for which he also made the video-visuals and created puppet-performances. His first documentary film will be premiering in January 2011.

Amsterdam based band Monokino brings together the artistic visions of George van Wetering, song writer, lead vocals, guitar; Yu Jin (former member of 'Cobra', first all-women rock band in Beijing) on keyboard and synthesizer, and electronic drummer Wouter de Buck. Monokino is touring extensively across China, Holland and the USA.

Lunar Eclipse (Winter Solstice 2010)

For the first time in over 400 years there was a total lunar eclipse during the winter solstice. It was too cloudy where I live to see all of it, but we could see it happening, barely. I assume there are millions of other people who also looked to the sky to see only clouds.

So for those people; the ones who wanted to see it and couldn't, the people who go to bed at 9p.m. because they have to work, the people who didn't even realize this life-changing astronomical event was happening, or anyone else who missed out, here is a time-lapse video of the event, as well as a few interesting pictures. Enjoy.

Filmography 2010 - A remix of this year's movies.

This year's movies have legitimately transformed my idea of what is creatively possible. To commemorate, I've remixed 270 of them into one giant ass video.

Music:
1. Ratatat - Nostrand - http://tinyurl.com/2ahhhj9
2. Kanye West - Power - http://tinyurl.com/27mpo83
3. Rooney - Not In My House - http://tinyurl.com/23vpakx
4. Apartment - Fall Into Place - http://tinyurl.com/2fnsnkc
5. Civil Twilight - Letters from the Sky - http://tinyurl.com/2fwrlys
6. SUNBEARS! - Little Baby Pines - http://tinyurl.com/26d9brn

Films in order of appearance: http://filmography2010.blogspot.com/

My heartfelt thanks to everyone for sharing in the love of film with me! Here's more information about how I put this video together: http://tinyurl.com/37jn37t

Note: My film selection process was fairly open; anything that was either produced or distributed in 2010 was fair game (I also consulted this Wikipedia entry). This is why some movies are labelled 2009 or 2011 on IMDB. Also, this by no means constitutes a comprehensive list of films that came out in 2010. That would have been exhausting.

Duck Sauce - Barbra Streisand (Official Video)

Duck Sauce is a collaboration between DJs Armand Van Helden and A-Trak, signed to Fool's Gold Records.

When asked why to use Barbra Streisand's name for the song the A-Trak said:  "There really is no relation or rational reason behind the lyric in the title, Barbra Streisand... It's just something that we thought would make people laugh.... We just came up with this idea that it would be funny to say someone's name." The song samples from Boney M's "Gotta Go Home."

Scissor Sisters - Invisible Light

Scissor Sisters is the name of an American pop and Nu-disco band formed in 2001. The members consist of vocalists Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, multi-instrumentalist Babydaddy, lead guitar/bassist, Del Marquis, and drummer Randy Real (who replaced former drummer Paddy Boom). "Spawned by the scuzzy, gay nightlife scene of New York", they took their name from a sexual position between two women also known as tribadism.

Scissor Sisters have since collaborated with a number of other well known pop musicians including Elton John and Kylie Minogue; these particular collaborations have been received positively by both critics and other notable figures. Bono, main vocalist of rock band U2, described Scissor Sisters as "the best pop group in the world" in 2004.

Marriage: It's a trap!!!!

This is a picture from a  Star Wars theme wedding. They went all out, and every single person at the ceremony was dressed up as a character or in Star Wars fashion. The marriage was even officiated by Princess Leia herself. Which totally explains why the groom decided to rock a Mon Calamari mask -- he was ogling those boobies during the ceremony! Well played sir, I like your style.

Dwight's wigs.

Here is a clip from The Office Season 7 episode, "Classy Christmas."

Dwight: Yes, I have a wig for every single person in the office. You never know when you're going to need to bear a passing resemblance to someone.

Wikirebels - The Documentary

In WikiRebels, we learn about the early hacker life of Julian Assange, and his later decision to form an organization where whistleblowers can anonymously pass information that documents crime and immorality. His stated goal is to expose injustice, and nothing exemplifies this more than the leaked film entitled “Collateral Murder.”

Assange’s stated hope was that alternative media would disseminate the leaks – amounting to over a million documents to date – in a way that would drive positive change. In the film (and in various interviews), he expressed disappointment that alternative media has mostly been unable to adequately analyze and synthesize the data contained in the massive data dumps. So, the whistleblower organization turned to corporate media, with its deep pockets. The Guardian (UK), Der Spiegel (Germany) and the New York Times (US) brokered a deal to publish their analysis of the documents at the same time.

Though this controversy is not mentioned in the rough cut of WikiRebels, such a move launched widespread suspicion that the group is part of a carefully contrived psychological operation. I discount this in Criminalizing Whistleblowers: Wikileaks and America's SHIELD Legislation. Speculation about the source of the documents is much easier than analyzing the thousands of released documents.
One independent news source, IndyBay.org, reports that Assange accepted payment from Israel to delete any U.S. diplomatic cables that portray Israel poorly (as if anything could mar its reputation any worse than it already is). The source of this information, however, is Daniel Domscheit-Berg, a former disgruntled employee of WikiLeaks.

At the end of WikiRebels, Iceland TV journalist, Kristinn Hrafnsson concludes, “Democracy without transparency is not democracy.”
